happy day for mommas!

hi there,

thank you for for sharing my excitement about my magnets in the previous post!

i was going through my art files today and found a few pieces i sketched for a card company for mother's day last year. so appropriate for today! i hope all you mommas out there, including my own, are having a lovely, relaxing and pampered day.

i drew this "laundry day" piece for mother's day because it captures a sweetness about my mom and how she loves to hang out the clothes to dry behind her maine home.
happy mother's day all you sweet mommas :)
i've made it available in my shoppe if you'd like one. i also listed quite a few new tiger kitten prints & originals and will do another update tuesday afternoon.

my art, elsewhere.

hello,

i am super duper psyched to share that my art has been made into these awesome magnets by i-pop! 3 sets & 3 individual big clicks:) whenever i've seen these magnets at art stores and boutiques i've loved them because they are shiny, art filled and chunky like candy. who wouldn't want to decorate your fridge or inspiration board with these guys? so honored to be part of the magnet glory.
i-pop magnets!
big clicks for i-pop!

my line will be debuting at the NYC stationary show in May, which i would so love to attend myself someday (sigh) and then available to the public in June here.

also, i am honored to have designed the May banner for one of my favorite sources for inspiration: Sparkletopia. Check it.

peace out sweet peeps,

glimmers in our hearts

hello there muffins,

(my friend kate called me muffin on the phone tonight and i thought it so cute. so now i will call all of you that too.)

i'm feeling excited by a lot of things tonight! i take off tomorrow morning for beloved New Mexico:) i cannot wait! to see my darling college roomie jessie, more friends, georgia o's ghost, green chiles, a hot tub soak, a massage maybe? reading. plane magazines. art. did i mention hugh & i applied for a joint show at the Harwood Art Center in Albuquerque that is happening January 2009? so now it's a business trip too to check out the space and plan our show. this is an amazing venue that i went to over 8 years ago and thought... wow, i want to be an artist, and now i'm having a show there. a full circle dream come true.

OK, something i am very very very excited about is this collaboration between one of my favorite online peeps: moodswing + matirose= true love indeed
tiny suspect
this is just a teaser... more soon!

let's see i also wanted to THANK all of you amazing bloggers for putting the word out about our Italy adventure:) In particular some of my favorite design blogs: Modish, Design for Mankind, Poppytalk and my girly show tribe: Sparkletopia, Marisa, Outi, Boho and Christine So excited that several people are signing up! We need a total of 12 participants to make it a go, so please pass the word out on this once in a lifetime journey!

and last, but not least, i want to give a shout out to the lovely Jenifer of Sprout Studios for hosting a bunch of us blogger girls over for dinner in her awesome live/work loft. so fun! Here are the rings Jenifer made us... necklaces too! I also recently did an amazing trade of art for a skateboard based on Jenifer's silkscreen! LOVE it.

Have lovely weeks all!

following my true north 1,2,3

following my true north 1
following my true north 2
following my true north 3
i titled my latest trio of paintings this for the show at madrone tomorrow night.
it feels like this is something i'm always trying to navigate... my inner compass. and art helps me get there. i feel like i tried something new & different in each of these paintings, but some quality reminds me of these two older paintings of mine. you see it?

come on out to show if you can locals: 6-10, Divisidero & Fell.

almost at the 1/2 way point.

i'm about 5 months into my 32nd year and i thought i'd reflect on some hopes today that i put fourth on my turning 32:

1. i got a sewing machine, but haven't quite mastered this skill, at all. giselle gave me an awesome lesson once, bless her.
3. started going to the farmers market with a friend, but want to be more regular.
6. i have launched my website!
9. i learned about my credit, but need to tackle building better.
12. am going to ITALY! for our be-lated honeymoon afterwards too:)
24. and will teach a class there! & have been teaching a class to kids routinely.
25. i have researched home buying & attended an all day workshop through a great program called MEDA for first time & low-income home buyers.
26. i just got dental insurance! and health. i think i was too embarrassed to even put that on the list. i am so excited to go to the dentist and get my teeth cleaned! i had gone to the school last and it was no fun having 10 people peering over your mouth learning how to pull a tooth. ouch.
27. two friends gave me their bikes... but neither is my dream bike... should have put that out there;) a beautiful schwinn type bike with a basket. can beggers be choosers?
29. we do have friends over for dinner more than we used to vs going out to a restaurant. it has to be a really conscious decision because there are so many good restaurants in the bay area and it's just easier.
30. i just got 2 good pairs of good butt jeans on sale at anthropologie! it helps if you decide to like your booty first i suppose.
32. i got new running sneakers!! my old ones were over 5 years old with holes. it's hard for me to pay for functional things like that aren't attractive.

SO the rest are a work in progress. i have to say when i write down my intentions, it works... i don't think it's hocus pocus, but i do think it is recognizing what i/you want and appreciating it when it occurs. what are your thoughts on this? i noticed that as soon as i wrote this list suddenly friends are giving me their bikes and asking me to go to homeownership workshops and my mother in-law bought me a membership to SCBWI so i can work towards publishing a children's book! and plans are in the works to visit seattle & portland:) it is interesting to reflect here on my priorities to be more centered, grounded, balanced and responsible and having it all be part and parcel of my bigger dreams. here are the rest:

2. make my own curtains
4. step up my exercise: research martial arts, marathons & personal trainers
5. finish & then send off my children's book & then publish it!
7. spend the time to cook & eat slowly and at a table (vs a computer or standing up! old waitress habit.)
8. meditate daily.
10. earn X amount of $.
11. have a solo show.
13. have internet free weekends and nights.
14. go to nova scotia.
15. explore portland, oregon.
16. visit friends in seattle.
17. paint our living room.
18. get a coffee table that works.
19. go to the ocean more!
20. go on hikes!
21. yoga once a week or more.
22. learn to drive in san francisco.
23. drive with hugh cross country, or at least halfway.
28. simplify.
31. get a nice everyday sweater (i bought one, but i've decided it looks like a mumu and cannot be my go to one)

big hugs to you,
mati

upcoming show at madrone lounge & some hair talk.

upcoming artshow at madrone lounge
madrone art show deets

i'll be madly painting a few boat paintings between now and then:) maybe you can make the opening!!?? i would love that.

here's a pic of my shorter & blonder hair. having shorter hair makes me feel a bit tomboyish, which is fun. it also makes me want to wear darker colors. does this happen to any of you hair changers? i'm such an antsy hair person... i was just looking through some random photos and it's red, brown, bangs, short, long. when i was in college i had alanis moirsette long hair and when i first moved out here to SF i had pixie short hair (i'll look for some photos). and bright red, yellow, bright pink streaks & light pink... and everything in between. fortunately my husband hugh sticks to blue
or black, which is good because i don't think i could pull those shades off.

hello spring! hello possibility.

it's been too long since i've written. how is everyone?

i have some new paintings for you to see! originals for sale in my shoppe!
speaking 1,000 languages
there's a new girl in town

so it's springtime already! ahh sweet spring...it fills me with possibility. i just booked a ticket to visit jessie, my college roomate & one of my favorite people in the entire world, in albuquerque, new mexico. last time i went to visit i got overtaken by a monsoon and went raspberry picking. this time i have fantasies of visiting Georgia O'keefe's home and studio ghost ranch in santa fe. i've been reading her bio and thinking a lot about the differences being an artist (& female) in the 1930's versus today. Georgia O helped pave the way!
hugh gave me a locket ring for our 6 year dating anno.

speaking of paving the way, the aforementioned jessie is helping put together an amazing feat of an art show: "The Cradle Project". read about it here & participate!

CALL TO ARTISTS!
The Cradle Project is an artistic fundraising
installation taking place in Albuquerque, NM on June
7th, 2008.

The vision and goal of the project is to exhibit 1,000
cradles, made from recycled materials, by artists from
all over the country and all across the globe. Cradles
will subsequently be auctioned off online, with all
funds going directly to the more than 48 million
orphans affected by HIV, Aids, and violence in
sub-Saharan Africa.

Get involved! Submit a cradle!
Submission deadline is April 30th, 2008.

What else?

oh yes, there is amazing stuff happening over at Design for Mankind, a new favorite blog of mine. First Erin puts together incredible Ezines on Inspiration, the latest on favorite corners (which i participated in!). it's a real visual treat. now she is writing these excellent posts under the category of "roadmaps" about breaking free from the 9-5 to pursue a creative independent life and the adventure of that road taken.

be well,
mati
