enron & elephants

big boy
elephant
i just noticed that i must be digging these two shades of red & blue lately!

last night i went on a cleaning binge of our kitchen-- deep cleaning hits me infrequently, so i really have to drop everything else and run with it! i decided that my kitchen's aesthetic is mexican meets maine 50's style farmhouse with some 70's style cupboards thrown in. a bit schizo, but it works.

i watched an important movie last night: the smartest guys in the room about the enron catastrophe. have you seen it? it is so educational. i was pissed by the end, especially in light of living in california and our jacked up energy bills. rent it peeps! it explains so much and reinforces why we need to create our lives with integrity (i just erased a huge rant here).

here's my doily elephant in progress that i mentioned earlier. my kid's book critique group thinks i should hand-write the lettering (on the animals way down below). do you agree? i have fairly nice handwriting despite the awkward way i hold my pencil.

I do love your handwriting! Maybe you should fontify it! www.fontifier.com and then you can use it on the computer, and wouldn't that be handy!

Your kitchen looks so colorful and fun.

i hold mine funny too-with the correct fingers but held tighter than normal.

I like your little elephant, very funny with it's hunched over body and long trunk. I am a sucker for animals that are a little askew.

The elephant is faboo! Especially the doily collage, the colors, oh - the patterns!

If that were the advertisment for a children's book, I would buy it for my niece ASAP. (gawd knows her partents don't buy her the *cool stuff* ;)

Hi mati, I love your elephant! I'm in the process of writing a children's book too. I've had many ideas in my head, some half written and some just the ideas jotted down. But now I finally have an idea that is written and now I just have to do the art to go with it. The fun part! I don't belong to a critique group yet, but I'm thinking I will try to find one. I am going to a SCBWI workshop next Saturday, so hopefully I will get some info and inspiration there...and direction. Have you ever been to one? I'll write again with some notes if you like. I know I need to put it all together and then get it out there and see what happens. I love that your are doing it too. When I get more of my art together for it, I'll share.
