summer 1985

i want a backyard bonfire on a rocky coast. homemade french fries with the skins on. salt. endless ketchup. knee socks pulled up high to my 80's style shorts with skinny legs and a big hoodie to wear everyday. i want balancing on driftwood and building castles out of pebbles. i want no job, but to read the day away and feel exhausted from play. i want family friends to lean on and know they are the adults as they crack their jokes and beer. i want to bring my sleeping bag out onto the rocks and roast marshmallows while i escape my bedtime.

me too! i want grass stained knees and blackberry pie from blackberries my arms are still scratched and itchy from picking. i want to dig a big hole and sit in it and read a book in the cool dark earth smell. and then maybe fill it with water from a hose. and drink from the hose. and spray YOU with the hose! it just wouldnt be the same in the courtyard, would it?

your words are just lovely. yes, those are all wonderful, wonderful things. i'd have to add drive in movies under the stars with sweaters for when it gets cold and bats zipping around overhead and crickets chirping in the distance. sending hugs, shari
