do you remember these days?

my husband hugh and i were talking about grade school gym class when a person with a parachute would suddenly appear and it would be parachute day!
where did this person come from?
we'd form a circle and run in and out under the parachute and sometimes a really little person would get to go in the center.
yes. good times!

I totally remember parachute day! It was such a great memory.
Also, track and field days at the end of the school year. And before it was required that we had physical education class everyday, we had P.E. every thursday.

fantastic. and wouldn't it be just perfect if someone showed up at your door with a parachute one morning and said, "hey, you don't have to do anything but parachute today it's just parachute day!". okay, so maybe it would be amazing and a little creepy too. but mostly amazing. (very nice to meet you too and i hope to see you again very soon! and yes... true love forever!)

and then they would throw rubber balls in the middle and we would toss them around to each other?

when my parents lived out on a mini farm. they had a pumpkin party each fall. my parents invited all the teachers from the corp and everyfamily from church and let the kids all take home their own pumpkin[free]and we would have apple cider, hotdogs and marshmallowson the open fire. smoke in your eyes and the parachute. we have a picture of my son gabe, clear up in the air - laughing. dad would put kids in the center and we would toss them.
so much fun.

LOL - and it still happens. my daughter just had parachuet day last week. BUT - they now sell those parachuets at target (or any other toy store), so its a little less special for kids these days.

I love the parachute. It was the best. Great team work exercise, I'm sure, but it was just fun!
I got here from hula-seventy

OMG - Yes! We would beg for parachute day all winter long, but of course we couldn't do it in the snow and they'd save if for like the very last week of school, when we all had hardcore cabin fever. The best part was when everyone would lift up, run underneath (still holding on) and sit down on the parachute edge really fast, creating a bubble like tent over our heads.

Thanks for that memory, Mati!

Hi Mati,

I teach 4 and 5 year olds with special needs...the parachute is one of our weekly activities. When they see it, their faces lit up and they start jumping up and down! Love it!!! xx

i'm in grad school for early childhood education, and in one of my classes this summer, we did the parachute exercise. we all lifted it as high as it could go, ran under it, sat on the edges, and tucked them under as quickly as we could. it then creates a huge, colorful tent. it was magical! we all, as adults, lit up with joy so i can imagine how children must think it's the greatest.

Oh my gosh! Parachute day was the best ever... just a few weeks ago I was telling my boyfriend about it...trying to explain the happiness. He could only imagine!

I grew up in Australia and we did parachute aswell! It is an amazing memory with all the kids lifting up at the same time, some running under... Ive never seen it elsewhere! Nice to think about it again!
