in this year i want to:
1. learn to sew.
2. make my own curtains.
3. get a produce box or buy weekly from farmer's market.
4. step up my exercise: research martial arts, marathons & personal trainers.
5. finish & then send off my children's book & then publish it!
6. launch my new website in january!
7. spend the time to cook & eat slowly and at a table.
8. meditate daily.
9. figure out credit.
10. earn X amount of $.
11. have a solo show.
12. travel to italy and research WOOF.
13. have internet free weekends and nights.
14. go to nova scotia.
15. explore portland, oregon.
16. visit friends in seattle.
17. paint our living room.
18. get a coffee table that works.
19. go to the ocean more!
20. go on hikes!
21. yoga once a week or more.
22. learn to drive in san francisco.
23. drive with hugh cross country, or at least halfway.
24. teach a class.
25. research home buying.
26. go to the dentist.
27. get a new bike.
28. simplify.
29. have friends over for dinner weekly instead of going out.
30. get good butt jeans.
31. get a nice everyday sweater.
32. get new running shoes that don't have holes in them!
I think my 32nd year is about being practical, simplifying, taking care, being strong, basic and continuing to grow from that foundation through my art. not saying goodbye to the glitter, sparkle and wild days of yesteryear, but i feel confident that those will be with me, are part of me. i got my branches, now i want the roots! happy day to you too!

winter white
maine, maria and vermont all made me appreciate subdued colors and bright white. and how colors boldly pop in crisp comparison.
i immediately felt the shift and the gangling of color calling me as i walked down mission street upon our return.
which calls to question, how much of our environments shape our inspiration?
(maria's wings, keisha my parent's snow bear & their new home in vermont)

new paintings & small worlds collide
my biggest fan lives over in australia and she has a self-professed shrine of my art! every time she buys a piece i am amazed and dance with glee and can literally breathe more freely because of her supporting me and my dream to live off of my art!
thank you kristin.
the craziest part about is that we just figured out that she knows and met my husband hugh through the melbourne office of the travel guide company they both worked at!
small small freaky wonderful world.
here are some new paintings available in my shop... welcome inside my head, and i've never tripped on acid despite my early hippie tendencies back when i liked phish and wore a hemp bracelet (that lasted only my senior year of highschool, trust me).
i need not make excuses for the trippy colors and patterns in my head. i think the next one will be all pattern all the time.

i want to live here.
i'm sure we all tear out pictures of homes and images that inspire us, but it is rare that someone seems to talk my language so directly! i want to sew my vintage silk scarves together and find a table like that. i love her skirts, shoes and electric blue tights! i'm biased as a painter, but i would want to add some spots of color to this loft. anyway, it's no wonder that this girl emily chalmer's london abode written up in the British Elle Decor way back in June also has some books whose titles speak to me, namely flea market style (hey, my birthday is coming up hint hint!). emily also owns a store named Caravan (watch & listen to this!).
should i share my magazine clippings here more often? i would love to see yours!

i have a thing for elephants.
so today i decided to paint more and why not stacked? i added this print and a couple others to my shoppe
thank you all who came out of the woodwork in the last post. even if it's just through words and pictures, it's so nice to meet you. i have been thinking about changes... in my life and in this space. but i think the remarkable thing is they might just be small and unnoticeable, but huge mental shifts to me! am i being cryptic? it's because i'm sorting it out myself as i type;) one thing i know for certain is that i'm feeling unstuck.
i've been most inspired by re-reading anne lamott's "bird by bird: some instructions on writing and on life" and re-visiting the concept of one bird... or in my case elephant... at a time. diving back into my sketch book to look at old ideas which then breed new ones.
tonight i'm most certainly stopping by diana's show at the candystore! i bought her calendar recently and it is so lovely. i cannot wait until 2008! i also bought for myself this strong & feminine talon necklace by jenny... you can see me wearing it here right after i tore open the package and received it from the postman. i love witnessing (and wearing!) jenny's constant evolution as an artist.
i also got these cute as punch pins from anke. available from her shop.
which reminds me, i took the pledge to buy handmade! i can honestly say, outside of art supplies, books and food, i have not bought anything not from etsy in the last 2 months! get ready for etsy holiday gifts friends & family!
thank you out there,
mati

hello beautiful dreamers.
i just wanted to say hello. and share photos that have inspired me over this month. i'm thinking about how i want to connect in this space. is it through only my art & process? sharing inspiration? the day to day? what does it all mean?
the blogs i like to read best share of truth and beauty and have consistency... regular postings that is. there has been a weird thing in my life (and i imagine yours?) where more and more people are blog, flickr, facebook, myspace savvy and there is more of an overlap of my people in real life with internet life. what to share and with whom? i felt when i started this blog it was only my little art & craft blog community, and a couple of friends and now because i used a nifty thing called a site meter (eek!) and i am curious about my audience and want to welcome you here! thank you for reading... i love your comments. feel free to at any point introduce yourselves:)
i started this blog as a way to process going back to art school and now that i've finished i'm recreating what this space is. i think beauty, truth and frequent postings is the way to go! any other suggestions?
sweet dreams,
m
