ok, although i did try to think of what i would want to color in as a wee one, i didn't really believe any one would actually take the time to download this small draw and then actually have their kids color it in. i'm humbled and teary at how happy it makes me. thank you nina beana. xxx

for years i've been a huge fan of thomas campbell-- his lettering, paintings, installations, sculptures, photography and movies! man, he is multi-talent. last year i watched his surf movie sprout and i photo-ed images from it that made me swoon. here are several out of the dozens--
tonight his newest film the present premiers in SF and i am so psyched to see it! xoxo mati
i'm pleased as punch to be featured in this issue of small magazine. when the kind editor olivia asked, i wrote back immediately an enthusiastic YES. it's such a perfect fit for me! every single time i get this magazine i gush over the art, the photo styling and the sweetness. apparently i'm either still a child... or maybe just maybe i'm actually finally getting the craving myself to have one. or both. regardless, i'm excited to be part of the magic of all things small.
oh yes, there's a small draw too if you click on the top navigation bar... it takes a while to download, but it's a b+w drawing for kids to color in by me :0
another balloon celebration shot! this one care of veronica

once again friends we're taking a month off and trying to sublet our SF flat. last time italy, this time maine! please let us know if you're interested and we'll send you more details.
we are looking for nice people to sublet our beautiful 2 bedroom (one is an office) Mission Apartment for the month. It is in a Victorian era building with hardwood floors, high ceilings and sunlight on a tree-lined street.
It is the sunniest part of San Francisco that is near lots of coffee shops and restaurants, public transport (BART) and biking routes.
Our apartment is reflective of 2 painters with lots of art and colorful rooms. We share our studio space in the back with other artists that could be negotiated for a extra. There is a communal backyard and roof deck filled with plants.
my goodness kelly sent me this painting that i absolutely fell in love with. in fact to quote my email to her... i was obsessed with it and kept taking peeks through out the day. is it the turquoise i love so? the hair? the looking sideways? the mischievous face? the red against the teal? the words? how fitting it is? the cheeks? the muddiness of the face? loooove and what a surprise to have it arrive at my doorstop with a note "i wanted you to have her". big happy tears my friend.
thank you darling. for now she's going under my photo of myself feeling like a pirate taken by hula. both remind me of who i want to be when i grow up is right inside.
i also wanted to say thank you karen for buying my original painting and showcasing it on BlogHer :) more originals are slowly making their way in my shoppe (my friend kate says she pronounces it shop-pay. does anyone else?)
annnnd if anyone is interested in being a creative ally and sponsor as seen on the right hand side of my blog shoot me an email for details: matimcd(at)hotmail(dot)com
i am thrilled when people send me photos and letters of how much joy my art brings to their home and sometimes (when it's wearable like my necklaces) on their bodies.
lutterlagkage from sweden bought this painting from the enormous tiny show (still a few feathered power ladies and one lucky elephant left!) and shared with me this lovely photo and note about the painting: She's got healing power and she reminds me to be the woman I truly am - every day!
... i also love how you stumble across something on-line which inevitably leads to another amazing trickle down discovery... like this video featuring the music from the band called renee & jeremy on the website of lutterlagkage, which then inspired my discovery to lead my friend pixie (who wooow!! has beautiful new art work and an etsy shop now!) to go to their show in LA :) small crazy connected world i say, or as they say "it's big world", but feels little:
I'm giving away 3 signed prints of my newest elephant painting!! This green (I love this color so) wholehearted elephant has a little bit of pink on her belly from an old collaged note that leaked. I felt it appropriate to leave it as a peeking out of her heart and imperfection....
Brene asks these questions today:
1. Who/what are you trusting today? 2. Who/what are you grateful for today? 3. Who/ what is inspiring you today?
In brief~ I'm trusting my inner artist, grateful for good coffee and inspired by old friends.
Now go over to Brene's to enter the giveaway please :)
