balance~ illo friday

08mati

i painted this almost a year ago after living in mexico for 3 months. hugh and i came back broke and squished into a tiny studio with all of our belongings within a square inch of us. and we are people who like things. baubles, art, dumpster diving treasures and our many newly aquired oaxacan skeletons were closing in us. not to mention the big computer which hugh was using daily to do design work on. i tried to find space, literally, to paint. i had a hard time re-adjusting. i still can't use that "kiss my face" lotion i used during that time because the smell floods me with claustrophobic memories.

i think about how far i've come in some regards, and regressed in others, but all along i've strived for balance. i've dug deeper for the truth of what makes me feel fulfilled. ME mati, not comparing myself to those whom i'm easily swayed by.

i start school next week in illustration! i've been working towards this goal for over 2 years- saving money, building my portfolio, taking classes and really digging as to what path i want to pursue. can it really be happening? it's always been far off in the future... now i have one more weekend to whoop it up pre-student!

this weekend also coincides with confronting my employers. i've had a difficult time at my part-time job and i really want to be honest and direct {and not cry} and leave with some self respect. i want to stand in my strength and believe that i'm worthy of creating my dreams. we all are, it just takes some digging and striking that balance that's right for each of us!
